The Lemonade War

Welcome: The Lemonade War
Description: Jessie is a 2nd grader who is lacking in the social arena, but not in academics. Her brother Evan is very competent when it comes to social skills; however, his academics are lagging behind those of his sister. At the end of the summer, Evan and Jessie start an argument because they received notice that not only is Jessie skipping a grade, but she will also be in the same 4th grade class as her older brother. Through a series of misunderstandings and unfortunate events the two begin a war selling lemonade during the last few days of summer vacation. Brother and sister start a competition with each other to see who can make the most profit selling lemonade during the last week of the summer. This book teaches morals, social behavior and academics through out the story by focusing on Jessie and Evan's strengths, weaknesses and trickery. The story is engaging and includes real life scenarios that students can relate to. Each chapter begins with a vocabulary word related to marketing and it's definition which is a great resource for reading teachers and a fun way for students to relate their vocabulary to what they are reading.
