The Very Hungry Caterpillar Lesson Plan

When reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to students, begin a K-W-L (What We Know, What We Want to Know, and What We Learn) about Caterpillars and Butterflies.  Students will engage and create their very own Very Hungry Caterpillar Books, which they can take home at the end of the lesson.  The book will include Days of the Week, Counting, Colors, some Stages of Butterfly Metamorphasis, and Sentences put together by the Students.  The art in their Very Hungry Caterpillar Books will be done on their own and facilitated by the instructor in the classroom.  By the end of this lesson, students should be able to Retell the Story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, practice their Colors, Count and Label the Different Foods in the Story, become familiar with the Four Stages of a Butterfly Life Cycle (Egg, Caterpillar, Cocoon (Crysalis), and Butterfly), and practice the Days of Week.
